HSBC

Delivering streaming transaction data in real time

Global investment bank HSBC had been processing retail transactions using periodic batch jobs, causing delays in data analysis and business action, such as sending customer alerts. The business needed to migrate to an instant, real-time processing solution, capable of handling extreme input peaks of up to 10,000 ordered transactions per second.

Chosen for our data analytics experience, we collaborated with the bank's teams to implement a new real-time pipeline. Incoming transactions were sent to Google Pub/Sub, then automatically identified and enriched using a scalable Dataflow job. The data was then pushed to a custom-built events rules engine, allowing non-technical users to build consumption rules for downstream systems.
Business units gained the ability to monitor and analyse incoming transactions in real-time and make immediate decisions. The bank also achieved substantial cost savings by moving the entire process to an automatically scalable, streaming solution on Google Cloud.
